As we settle into week two of our 5 short weeks together, I hope that you are becoming more comfortable with the pace of the course and are beginning to love the Mac! I want to remind everyone that I expect you to answer the weekly question (by leaving a comment) so I am assured that you understand what each week's assignments are. As of Monday evening, I only have 6 comments. Also, with such a tight schedule, you really need to do your best to get your assignments in on time as I will be grading them fairly quickly. As I stated on the first day, if your assignment is not submitted when I sit down to grade them, you will lose points.
This week: You are going to be introduced to the newsletter, powerpoint, and intro to Taskstream assignments. May students love the Newsletter assignment as it allows you to be very creative. Try to keep up with the journal assignments. . .the first 4 are due sooner than you think.
Journal 2: "Real-Life Migrants on the MUVE", by Ross Perkins and Cathy Arreguin. It is in the latest issue of L&L, May 2007, and can be found by going to the ISTE website. To access: go to ISTE, sign-in, click on the publications tab, choose L&L and you should see the May 2007 issue on the left side.
Journal 3: "Social Justice: Choice or Necessity?", by Colleen Swain and David Edyburn. It can be found in the March 2007 issue of L&L (Volume 34, issue 6).
This week's question: What is your current favorite band, musician or type of music?

I don't have one particular favorite band. I love alternative, punk, country and '80s. My favorite punk band is Saves The Day. My favorite country singers right now are Sara Evans and Clay Walker.
My standard answer is usually the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the Foo Fighters are making a strong case for a new number one. I'm also a big Muse fan. I really like most things except rap and hip hop, but even then there are some I listen to if I'm in the mood. I highly recommend the latest 30 Seconds to Mars and A.F.I. albums as well. Breaking Benjamin is good too. Ok, I like music, I'm done.
Good question! If I had to choose an all-time favorite, I'm going to go with the Rolling Stones. I love some of their lesser-known hits and think it is fabulous that they are now well into their sixties and still rocking! Other randoms that make their way onto my iPod, songs from childhood or maybe favorite movies, etc. include: Grateful Dead, Billy Joel, Guns N'Roses, Journey, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, America, Toto, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel...random, random, random! Depending on your musical tastes, you might either find the iPod mix hilarous or maybe want to smash it. Strangely, it doesn't seem that I like much of anything that has come out in the last 20 years...not sure how to interpret that.
This is a hard one because I love all types of music. But some of my top favorites are the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Fergie, Gwen Stafani and of course any old school hip hop!
I love cheesy 80's music, especially Journey. As for more contemporary music I enjoy a variety of different styles, but my current favorites are Gwen Steffani and The Killers.
I really like a lot of different music. In my cd player right now is Bon Jove greatest hits, Katharine Mcphee, Carrie Underwood, Matchbox 20, Beyonce, and Snoop Dogg. I love 80's, old school Madonna, and hip hop.
I like listening to all sorts of music. I grew up listening to Spanish music, so I occasionally listen to Vicente Fernandez when I'm drinking with my friends. I also enjoy listening to hip hop and alternative rock such as Linkin Park and Nickleback.
I listen to a lot of No Doubt (and Gwen's solo stuff), Sublime, and Bob Marley. I also appreciate the occasional showtunes...The Producers, Urinetown, Anything Goes are a few of my faves.

Going to JazzFest a couple of years ago was one of the most memorable music happenings I have been a part of. Checking out live music is a serious hobby of mine and provides for some of the best times or nights out. My interests are still everywhere also. The funk from Nawlins includes bands like The Meters and Galactic. Widespread Panic puts on an incredible show as well. I grew up listening to Top 40 and still revisit, but I prefer good indie finds like the Strokes, Doves, and Stephen Malkmus. This response could go on forever...Phish, Metallica, G. Love...
All time favorites: Radiohead, and then (in no particular order) The White Stripes, Smashing Pumpkins, Andrew Bird, Lots of jazz- Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Kenny Burrell, Django Reinhardt, Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, lots of older Big Band stuff... I also have a poppy side that includes The Strokes, Yo La Tengo, Franz Ferdinand, Mute Math, Cake, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Outkast, and I also like alot of Classic Rock like Zeppelin, Cream, CCR, Pink Floyd
But lately I've been buying alot of Tortoise, some DJ Shadow, a couple from an electronic composer named Nobukazu Takemura, I recently picked up Steve Reich's "Music for 18 musicians", some Dub Trio, and I've also been buying alot of old Delta Blues stuff like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Son House, and others. I really don't like country and the only reason I don't like rap or hip-hop music is because it's either too aggressive or banally materialistic, but otherwise I'd probably like it.
P.S- I just put on Steve Reich as I was writing this-- ahhhhhh..... yes.... Music for 18 Musicians-- BUY IT.
I have two favorite bands, Iron Maiden and Slayer. My favorite CD from Maiden would have to be Live After Death, which is a live album recorded in '84 at the Long Beach Sports Arena, where they sold out a record 7 nights in a row, without having an MTV video out, they were still considered "underground" at that time. Likewise, my favorite CD from Slayer happens to be a live CD too, called Live Undead, this was their first live CD and it showcases songs form the First LP, entitled "Show No Mercy." Great CD, it can really get you going in the morning, particularly because I don't drink coffee!
My favorite singer is Josh Groban. I also like Bryan Adams. I listen to all types of music, anything from classical and opera to classic rock.
footmon1I dont really have a favorite band in particular. I actually listen to the radio most of the time, usually 94.1, 91.1, or 93.3. I listen to my ipod most of the time at the gym and make playlists to work out to!
